Submission guide


Stories up to 25,000  words are welcome but don’t forget to put your word count in your stories header so we can categorize your story by length as follows by the guide below.

  • Flash fiction: under 1,000 words.
  • Short story: 500 to 17,000 words.
  • Novelette: 17,000 to 25,000 words.


  1. You need to be Registered and logged in to the site to submit a story
  2. Once logged in navigate to the submit a story page
  3. Enter your story name as the post title.
  4. Enter any tag names you want to assign to the story separated by a comma in the post tags section
  5. Answer the Anti-spam question
  6. Select a category (Sub-Genre) from the drop down to assign to your story. Please see our SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY SUB-GENRES page for info and help on selecting a  sub-genre for your story before you submit it. If you are submitting a story for the cyberpunk short story competition please select Cyberpunk Short Story Comp as your category…..
  7. Click into the visual editor (this site is built on WordPress you may be familiar with the WordPress visual editor already) and right click and Paste or Ctrl + V to paste your story into this area. (Please ensure you’ve read the format guide before you paste your work into the editor) .Once you’ve pasted your work in, please check it and adjust the formatting where necessary.
  8. Upload a featured image for your story. We suggest using an image with a 16.9 ratio. Maximum pixel size is 1000 x 1000 pixels.  Make sure you are the image owner or have permission from the image owner and cite the source of the image in the YSCI-FI standard header. If you don’t have an image of your own we suggest using PIXA bay which is a free stock image website
  9. Finally, use the Submit post button to submit your story. If you’ve filled out all the fields you’ll get a success message.
  10. Your story will be reviewed to ensure its appropriate for the site.  We’ll aim to get all suitable stories live within 24 hours.
